MCLW offers a full service cooking school with a variety of disciplines. Schedule a PRIVATE, COUPLE, or GROUP class and learn the joys (and health benefits) of plant-based cooking. Kitchen Director Sid Garza-Hillman will pair you up with Chef Instructor Sadhana Berkow or another of our Ravens’ creative team for an unforgettable culinary education experience! All private classes are $60/person or $90/couple. Group rates are $50/person for 3 or more.

Sid was born in Los Angeles, and raised there, San Diego, and Houston. After graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in Philosophy he worked for fifteen years as a Screen Actors Guild actor and headed up the alternative-western band, the Sid Hillman Quartet. Frustrated with life-long asthma, he experimented with diet as prescriptions were insufficient. He found that a vegan diet cured his symptoms and he could go inhaler-free. Sid is both a Certified Nutritionist and Weight Management Coach Practitioner. He is the author of “Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto” (Roundtree Press, 2012).
The Ravens is a co-creative kitchen team, who with Kitchen Director Sid Garza-Hillman and Executive Chef/Owner Jeff Stanford represent the Ravens “at night” creative team. Our main Chef Instructor, Sadhana Berkow oversees our internship program and provides beginning through advanced instruction in vegan cuisine and kitchen skills.

Beginning Vegan Cooking Learn the basics of whole plant-based vegan cooking including knife skills, cooking techniques, and vegan substitutions with one of Ravens’ co-creative team chefs. Class includes a handout with recipes for everyday meals the whole family will enjoy!
Gourmet Vegan Cooking Prepare a gourmet meal with one of Ravens’ trained vegan chefs. Learn elements of gourmet cooking including ingredient combining, cooking techniques – sautéing, braising etc. – cutting/chopping styles, and artful plating.
Vegan Baking and Desserts Ever wondered how you can bake delicious breads and desserts without eggs, cow’s milk, and butter? Learn how to bake all your favorites using all vegan ingredients.
Vegan Sauces, Dips and Dressings Learn how to turn any meal into a culinary delight with sauces, dips and dressings bursting with flavor.
Vegan Creamy Soups and Cheeses From creamy soups to an assortment of vegan cheeses, learn the skills and recipes to master the taste and texture of ‘creamy’ with 100% plant-based ingredients.
Whole Plant Nutrition and Cooking Begin with the “Basic Nutrition” class (see class description below) by MCLW’s certified nutritionist and author Sid Garza-Hillman, and then head into the kitchen to put your new knowledge to use in creating a wonderful whole plant-based dish with a member of Ravens’ creative team.
Healthy Holiday Cooking Learn how to have all the wonderful ‘comfort’ that comes with holiday foods, but with a whole plant twist. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, hearty main dishes, sides and more!
